RFID Resolves Seafood Spoilage Issue with Wal-Mart
When BeaverStreet Fisheries received a request from Wal-Mart Store Inc. for a $20,000 credit on a pallet of lobster tails that spoiled, it turned to RFID technology to resolve the issue.
The seafood case in question had an RFID tag affixed to it. Throughout the supply chain, the case was automatically recognized by readers at several points where data was fed automatically to a system responsible for tracking product movement, dwell time, and processing.
A trace of the serialized tag revealed that seven hours had elapsed from when the case passed the reader at the Wal-Mart distribution center entrance until it passed the reader at the entrance to the freezer.
