iMotion in Use

GlobeRanger’s iMotion is a software platform on which to build RFID, Sensor and Mobility applications and solutions. The primary function of iMotion is to provide communication from the edge devices to core applications by translating raw data captured at the edge into relevant business context (intelligence) that can be automatically integrated with upstream systems.

The following represents a cross section of the vertical market applications supported by the GlobeRanger iMotion Edgeware software platform.

Supply Chain – Product Tracking:
Supply chain applications of RFID typically start by tagging the pallets, cases and even the items that flow through that chain. By tagging products during or immediately after the manufacturing process, products can be “tracked” through the rest of their lifecycle through inventory, distribution, retail, and even returns.

The ability to reliably and accurately track products can lead to benefits including improved demand planning and inventory management, promotions management, proof of delivery, recall enablement, and returns management.

Asset Management:
Asset Management applications are typically oriented towards tracking the location and status of assets inside a particular area. This can be enabled with active, semi-active or passive tagging technologies depending on the requirements.

Additional asset attributes such as temperature or other dynamic values can also be tracked with the use of sensor based tags or the combination of stand alone sensors deployed in the environment.

Applications typically consist of some type of visual mapping interface for tracking assets along with assignment of rules that produce specific behavior depending on certain scenarios such as two assets being together or apart, or an asset attribute exceeding a threshold.

Inventory Management:
RFID and Sensor technologies can be utilized to provide many of the key metrics to assist in inventory management applications.

Applications such as cycle counting, low stock alerts, over stock alerts and misplaced items can be accurately and quickly managed with either fixed or mobile device infrastructures.

Pharmaceutical (Electronic Pedigree):
A pedigree document provides a historical document of record for a given product that can be used to help ensure product is authentic and has traveled via appropriate channels.

RFID and sensor technologies can be leveraged to more easily provide accurate and valid electronic pedigree documents. Edge processes can also be utilized to detect shipments that are inconsistent with their pedigrees and execute logic to isolate these exceptions.

Workflow Optimization:
Edge processes can dramatically improve the accuracy and speed of workers in the execution of processes in the workplace. RFID tags on products with RFID readers on Forklifts enable drivers to make the right decisions in real time. Handheld devices combining bar code and RFID allow a mobile worker to both detect and correct exceptions before they become full blown problems.

Cold Chain Monitoring (Automation):
RFID and sensor technologies provide the visibility portion of automation scenarios. As environments become more automated with the use of control systems, RFID provides a unique way to isolate and act on individual items or containers as they move through a mechanical system.
